My work is a vivid quirky cartoon style with highly expressive characters. The style is great for childrens markets, greetings cards, packaging and new media.
I have strong skills in character development and always aim to entertain with humour and genuine expressiveness. My specialty characters to date have been in the animal kingdom however I DO do people and full background scenarios very well.
A fundamental feature of my work is strong line work created with a dip pen. I work in Indian ink then scan the line art to build up a bold and quirky cartoon style for digital use. I can also work up the same line work with a mixture of watercolour and pencil for a more traditional children's look.
I generally work with a dip pen on drafting film from a series of drafts in pencil line and pantone pens for mocking up colour ideas.
I work from home doing freelance illustration and web design work. I can supply artwork ready for both print and digital media. I am also happy to supply animated artwork as flash, quicktime or animated gif files.
A broad part of my professional life has been focused in the new media industry and I have been publishing illustrations informally for friends and associates as well as in projects for many clients throughout the last ten years of my media career.
I am a registered member of the Association of Illustrators and registered as a sole trader.
